SYNOPSIS
Daimon Michiko is a brilliant surgeon who works freelance. Michiko is averse to social relationships, authority, and constraints. She has a detailed employment contract where it is stated that she will not do any work that does not require a medical license, she will only work for eight hours from 8am to 5pm, and she will receive extra payment if she is required to work outside her normal work hours.
Totei University Hospital is in major financial trouble, and investor Nicholas Tange agreed to invest capital and implement cost-cutting measures to improve the hospital's operations.
REVIEW
I really like Doctor X ~ Gekai Daimon Michiko ~ because it is one of those dramas that made me think twice about a lot of things; from doctors and hospitals to relationships and societal norms. It has definitely challenged my assumptions about doctors and hospitals.
In Doctor X 6 ~ Gekai Daimon Michiko ~, more stringent cost-cutting measures are being put in place to improve the hospital's operations, such as closing down affiliates that are not earning income.
First and foremost, I think it's important that companies and organizations are operating efficiently and effectively. It's a given to expect that these entities are maximizing revenues and minimizing costs.
When companies and organizations are not operating efficiently and effectively, it's obvious that there's room for the entities to earn more revenues and to lower costs. In the case of Totei University Hospital, it seems like this is the case.
However, the senior management of any organization should take care to maximize revenues and minimize costs in a strategic manner. Some expenses may seem frivolous at first glance, but are actually quite necessary for the organization's long-term operations.
For instance, although it is normal for the hospital to want to earn more revenues, this shouldn't be done at the expense of the health and wellness of the hospital employees and staff.
It is important that the people should be properly compensated for the work that they do. It is crucial that the people are not overworked on a regular basis, and are being given enough time to rest and recuperate so that they can perform at optimal levels when they go to work.
For another, although it is sensible to expect hospitals to invest in technological advancements in the medical field, it shouldn't be made at the expense of proper training and development of hospital employees and staff.
