SYNOPSIS
嵐 Arashi - Your EyesKatayama Yoshitaro became a police detective after having followed the will of his father who had been known as a great detective. However, Yoshitaro can never step into murder scenes because he faints whenever he sees blood, and criminals are able to easily slip away because he is afraid of heights. He also has phobias of women and ghosts. Moreover, he hates to doubt people more than anything, so he happens to believe whatever people say.
Yoshitaro has tried to quit his job as a detective a number of times in the past. His attempts to quit are all in vain because his mysteries-loving older brother Katayama Hiroshi and his super active younger sister Katayama Harumi always manage to convince him to remain as a detective.
One day, hopeless Yoshitaro finds a calico cat that somehow understands what people say and sometimes shows great reasoning power. With the help of strange hints given by this cat, Yoshitaro luckily succeeds in solving the cases.
REVIEW
I only watched Mikeneko Holmes no Suiri because of Aiba Masaki, and I definitely will not watch the drama otherwise. Well, I probably would if some other actor I like is in it, but then you get the point. This is not a drama I would watch because of the plot.
Apparently it was a rule in the Katayama household that one member in each generation will be a detective and for some strange reason, it was determined that Katayama Yoshitaro will be the detective in his generation even though he has a lot of characteristic flaws that will get in the way of his doing detective work.
It is very difficult to get behind Yoshitaro as a character because he has no desire to be a detective and he doesn't have the necessary skills to be an average detective, so becoming a great detective is really out of the question.
It's very strange that his older brother Katayama Hiroshi doesn't want to be a detective and younger sister Katayama Harumi is still to young to be one, yet they are essentially helping Yoshitaro in solving his cases. Technically Yoshitaro's siblings are pseudo-detectives so you wonder why they don't want to be one officially, at least in Hiroshi's case.
I also think it's a little crazy to rely on a cat that turns into a human to solve cases. Actually, the cat is not necessarily helping Yoshitaro by providing answers to questions but rather like providing sarcastic hints on what kinds of questions to ask, and where to take the investigations in terms of potential suspects.
Anyway, if you try to overlook the drama's flaws, Mikeneko Holmes no Suiri is still quite an interesting drama to watch because of the relationship among the Katayama siblings. Personally, I think the best scenes in the drama are when the Katayama siblings are at home, nagging and teasing each other and at the same time caring and supporting each other.
