SYNOPSIS
大野智 Ohno Satoshi - 曇りのち、快晴 Kumori Nochi, Kaisei
Yano Kenta is having such a difficult time. His girlfriend Mizuno Akane breaks up with him out of the blue. His bandmates suddenly cuts him out of the band even though he is the lead singer. He owes his father a lot of money because his father paid his college tuition. He is out of work and with the economy at its worst, companies are not willing to hire him.

After a tedious jobhunting process, Kenta was surprised that a company was willing to hire him. He was initially glad when he got hired but then he found out that his job is to sing on a children's show.

Having no other job prospects in line, Kenta accepts the job offer. On his first day at work, Kenta is even more disappointed when he finds out that instead of the lead singing character, he is actually part of the supporting cast.

REVIEW
Uta no Onī-san provided a way for most viewers to see how television shows are being made and to see all the trouble behind the scenes that the audience don't know about.

The drama is about a person who cannot pursue his dreams and ends up accepting the job that he is able to do instead. He ends up liking his new profession; he may not have his dream job but he is living well.

I suppose the drama is quite realistic in this sense. After all, not everyone gets to follow their dreams. Yano Kenta may be a singing brother on a children's show and not the rock star he wanted to be, but he is still making a difference in people's lives.

There are particular jobs that most people would love to do and then there are professions that people would not even consider. To be honest, there are some jobs out there that are even looked down upon by the society. But the drama points out that what is most important is that you work hard on whatever it is you have to do and you try to appreciate whatever it is that you do have.

Kenta was hostile with his coworkers probably because he was forced by circumstances to do something he had not thought of doing and to be with people he never thought he'd be relating to. But Kenta is not as indifferent as he wants to appear to be and it's nice how he helps people solve their problems.

What I didn't like in the drama is how Kenta's relationship with his ex-girlfriend Mizuno Akane is open-ended and it seemed that they have a future together. I really don't want Kenta to reconcile with her because she ended their relationship without any explanation. Akane is also part of Kenta's band and the members ditched Kenta to pursue a record contract without informing him of the situation.  The other band members all acted dishonorably with regard to Kenta and their working relationship, especially Akane because she was the girlfriend.

Uta no Onī-san is an entertaining drama but if watch closely, you'll find a lot of good insights about life and relationships.
