SYNOPSIS
Otonashi Tsukiko is a police detective recently assigned to a new investigation team. Due to her interest in urban legends, Tsukiko became a detective in order to establish proof that urban legends are real and to solve crimes that involve urban legends.
Tsukiko arrives at her new workplace and meets her new colleagues Tannai Ichio, Shibayama Toshiya, Rachi Shinji, and Iwata Yoko. Tsukiko's superior is irritated that she's not dressed appropriately for work and her colleagues are intrigued that she can tell ahead of time that she will receive a phone call. The phone call is about a possible suicide case and the investigation team goes to the crime scene.
Katsūra Hiroto is a forensic expert with an obsessive-compulsive disorder. He is bothered when things are out of place and he has to constantly remind himself to leave crime scenes as he has found it.
REVIEW
Toshi Densetsu no Onna is a drama about urban legends; more specifically it is about solving crimes that may be related to urban legends. Police detective Otonashi Tsukiko intends to prove that the crimes are related to urban legends and in order to do so, she has to disprove other possible explanations for the crimes. Incidentally, she does end up solving the crimes but not as she has intended.
Tsukiko is an interesting character, not because she loves urban legends but because she's actually quite clever. She's much smarter than what she appears to be; definitely much more than most people give her credit for. She's also sly enough to use her physical attributes and feminine wiles to make people around her to be more cooperative with her.
Otonashi Tsukiko: That's right (guys treat me well because I dress this way). So since I'm still young, I thought I'd take advantage of it. If you just show a bit of leg, suddenly people are a lot more cooperative. The police force is a man's world, you know. If you've got it (legs) and if it works, then why not use it?
She dresses differently than most policewomen; she wears feminine clothes and colorful high heeled shoes rather than business suits and practical shoes. She also refuses to change the way she dresses just because her superior does not think what she wears is appropriate for work.
To be fair, some of her outfits are certainly inappropriate at work so some criticisms are warranted. However, as a whole, I think she should be allowed to wear what she wants at work, provided that her outfits do not hinder her from doing her job well. Her clothes just need minor adjustments in order to become more work-appropriate anyway, perhaps a longer length so she can move more comfortably and maybe a lower heeled shoes or flats for those days that she needs to go to crime scenes.
