REVIEW
I watched Gossip Girl before I read the books (some, not all) where the television series is based from, which is different from how I usually do things as I tend to read the books first before attempting to go through any adaptations, if at all.
I enjoyed watching the production because of the fashion, and it's probably what kept me tuned in until the end. Blair Waldorf is my favorite character for a lot of different reasons, but her style is particularly high on that list.
I like most of the narration, or rather the dialogues by Gossip Girl, particularly the ones that quote famous historical figures, use clever word play, and discuss the different characters' situations within a specific theme.
I don't appreciate the endless merry-go-round of who's dating whom in the Upper East Side, mainly because I think there could be drama without the extremely convoluted dating conundrum. But perhaps the complicated relationships are a literal reflection of what happens in reality whatever the social class, but more poignantly evident in the upper classes.
I don't like that the production revealed who Gossip Girl is in the end, and I probably will feel the same even if it turns out to be someone other than outsider-turned-insider Daniel 'Dan' Humphrey. I wish the identity of Gossip Girl was not revealed, and instead the legacy of the infamous blog was passed on anonymously to another unnamed person.
Although I like closure as much as, or probably even more than, the next person, I'm okay with Gossip Girl's identity remaining a mystery because her appeal is she could be anyone. Considering that everyone, save for Nate, sends tips to Gossip Girl, it is quite fair to say that Gossip Girl is actually anyone and everyone.
Anyway, if you're interested to see the real-life Blair Waldorfs, Serena van der Woodsens, Nathaniel 'Nate' Archibalds, and Charles 'Chuck' Bass' in action, you may consider watching the documentaries Born Rich, and The One Percent.
