SYNOPSIS
Kim Do Jin manages his own architectural firm with a scathing tongue. He is sitting at a coffee shop when he meets the eyes of an attractive woman walking along the sidewalk.
Seo Yi Soo is a high school ethics teacher and she moonlights as an umpire at amateur baseball games. She has a secret crush on a baseball player who is interested in dating her friend.
Im Tae San is successfully managing his own construction firm. He is a perfect gentleman and he satisfies the average woman's 'ideal guy' description.
Hong Se Ra is a professional golf player. She has a very calculating personality because she is only interested in dating wealthy men.
Lee Jung Rok is a playboy who likes flirting with women. He married an older woman for money and is currently enjoying a lavish lifestyle.
Park Min Sook is a sophisticated and seemingly confident woman who is actually very insecure and lonely. She is constantly worried about her husband's infidelities.
Choi Yoon is a lawyer and he is still trying to mend his broken heart after losing his wife four years ago.
Im Me Ah Ri is Tae San's much younger sister who went to the US to pursue her studies in fashion design. She is in love with one of her brother's closest friends.
REVIEW
A Gentleman's Dignity tells the story of four men in their forties as they go through love, breakup, success and failure. It is a drama about the friendships, relationships, and careers of urban professionals.
Considering that the male characters are in their forties and the female characters are mostly in their thirties, I had thought that the drama would focus on issues specific to the characters' age range such as remaining unmarried at an advanced age and the ticking biological clock issue for older women. However, the drama discussed issues and conflicts that people may experience at any stage of their life such as having a son out of wedlock and cheating spouses. It's not necessarily a bad thing, just somewhat different from what I had expected.
I think the best part of the drama is the close friendship between Kim Do Jin, Im Tae San, Lee Jung Rok, and Choi Yoon. I think its great that they have remained close throughout the years and it seems that they would remain so in the years to come.
The main characters often discussed that even if they are in their forties, they are still trying to figure things out in terms of what to do with their lives and how to deal with their relationships. Honestly it's kind of scary to think that no matter what your age, you will more or less still be confused and uncertain about yourself, your career, and your relationships.
