SYNOPSIS
Kisaragi Sumi is 65 years old who lives alone, without family and close friends. Deeply regretting how she had lived her life, Sumire ardently wished that she would be given a chance to do things differently -- she would go to university, she would maintain close friendships with her peers, she would fall in love with someone and confess her feelings, and she would go to work.
When Sumi wakes up, she finds out that she has a more youthful appearance. She then adopts the identity of 20-year-old college student Kisaragi Sumire, and she determinedly tries to live the life she always wanted...
REVIEW
Sumika Sumire is a drama about second chances. We don't always get the opportunity to live our lives all over again or to do things differently, so I suppose there's always that fascination on how it will go if it ever happens.
The drama had a strange way of going about it though. When 65-year-old Kisaragi Sumi became 20-year-old Kisaragi Sumire, she still retained everything such as her memories. Young Sumire also turns back to her old lady appearance regularly, and she has to be careful that she's alone at her house before that happens.
It's somewhat difficult to root for Sumire to live her new life to the fullest, when we're always reminded that it's not her life that she's living. I mean, since it doesn't seem to be a permanent change, there's always that reminder that it's just a temporary arrangement and things will go back to how it was before or to how it should be.
Actually, I wanted to stop watching the drama as soon as I figured out the direction of how it wants to tell the story. But I didn't, and it's all because of Machida Keita and his role as the ideal man Mashiro Yusei.
