Kurosawa Kokoro has always aimed for an Olympic gold medal in judo, but an injury prevented her from pursuing her dream. When she thought of what else she can do in her life, she decided to work in manga.

Kokoro became a rookie editor in the editorial department of a weekly manga magazine.  With the help of her experienced colleagues, she learns what it means to be an editor.

Juhan Shuttai! is an interesting drama about the publishing industry as it takes a macro look on what happens behind the scenes. It focuses on the people that make the creative product such as the manga artists and their assistants as well as the editors and the editorial department. It also focuses on the people that take care of the financial aspect of the business such as the salespersons and the sales department as well as the booksellers and the bookstore owners.

This is obviously a great drama to watch if you want to work in the publishing industry, but I think this is perfect for everyone who works; whether you're a rookie in your chosen career, or you're already a professional who's still aiming for the next rung in the so-called corporate ladder.

There's a lot of enlightening discussion about what is required to be whatever your position at the company is, whether you're an editor or a salesperson or a manga artist. Everyone, as they struggle with their work responsibilities, get to ask themselves and their colleagues about what it means to be good at their jobs as well as how to define success in their chosen careers.

The drama also tackles relevant current issues such as what it means to publish magazines and books in the digital age, and what happens to traditional bookstores when all sorts of entertainment materials now have electronic versions.
