Upon arriving in Nagano, the man is claiming that he was forced to admit to to the murder by the Metropolitan Police Department in Tokyo. The suspect is claiming that he is falsely accused and he is actually innocent.
Kaoru requests that her superiors allow her to stay in Nagano so she can solve the case...
REVIEW
The drama is part of the Galileo series but it's only because the characters are the same. However, the star of Galileo XX is detective Utsumi Kaoru and not the brilliant physics professor Yukawa Manabu, who is also known as Galileo.
Kaoru is having a midlife crisis because she is uncertain if she wants to remain working as a detective. She is passionate about her work but she sticks out like a sore thumb in the predominantly male work environment. Kaoru believes that her gender shouldn't be an issue as long as she is doing her job properly but a female superior told her that unfortunately, the fact that she's female is a major concern.
Takasaki Yoriko: It totally matters (if you are a male detective or female detective). In the world of the police, achieving sexual equality is less likely than achieving zero crime!
The drama tackled a seemingly straightforward murder case but is actually a very complicated case. It is further compounded by the fact that it may be related to another case that occurred ten years before the drama's time frame.
This is spoiling the ending of the production but I really want to raise the issue because it bothered me tremendously. If a person witnesses a crime as it happens and knows full well that a crime is taking place, is there really no way that the said person can be legally held responsible for not contacting the police?
If it goes much further than that, say a person manipulates the scenario so that a known killer will murder another person, is there really no way that the said manipulator will also be held responsible for the victim's death? I mean, if the manipulator did not actually kill the victim but he set things up so the victim will be killed, isn't the manipulator also morally responsible and legally liable for the murder?
I suppose it's not always possible given that it will be difficult to find tangible proof of said manipulation, but it is quite frustrating to let someone who clearly did wrong to get away without any punishment.
