SYNOPSIS
Fukumaru Yūko is a senior at a prestigious private college. She's a very straightforward person who clearly says what she thinks and feels.
Kōdai Shigemasa Jr., also known as Masao, comes from an elite background. He's the eldest son of a Japanese father and a British mother who has telepathy. Masao can neither read people's minds nor even pick up on the simplest subtext.
Shigemasa falls in love with Yūko, who was resolute about not getting together with him because he was an ex-boyfriend of a very good friend.
REVIEW
Kōdai-ke no Hitobito is an interesting drama about true love. It is the love story of Kōdai Shigemasa Jr. and Fukumaru Yūko, who are the parents in the 高台家の人々 Kōdai-ke no Hitobito movie. It's fun to see characters when they were younger, and then when they become older.
The drama showed that Shigemasa (or Masao) and Yūko are meant to be because they are different when it comes to each other. Masao is someone who normally takes things at face value, but he always tries to confirm with Yūko if she means what she ways even though he liked her for her straightforward character. Yūko always speaks her mind but she often lies to Masao and to herself about how she truly loves him.
It sounds problematic when you think about it, because they are not being true to themselves if that's the case. But I suppose it makes for easy and effective storytelling when a character acts one way with everyone else but acts differently when it comes to a special person.
Yūko really likes Masao but she's denying her feelings because Masao used to go out with a close friend. If I were in her place, I would have the same reservations. It was also really decent of Yūko to have a serious talk with her close friend before taking any actions.
However, Yūko's friend was very understanding about the situation. I wonder though if she will still react the same way if her friend didn't give her blessings. I would like to think that she'll still get together with Masao.
