SYNOPSIS
Musical ators Jung Sang Hoon, Jo Jung Seok, and Jung Woo meet with the production team of Youth Over Flowers at a restaurant, unaware that they are scheduled to depart from South Korea in around three hours.

Fellow musical actor Kang Ha Neul had to attend an awards show, but a producer informed him as soon as the event ended that he will be leaving the country in two hours to catch up with his older friends who have already traveled ahead of him.

They are traveling to Amsterdam in the Netherlands for a long layover, and then they will go to Reykjavik in Iceland to see the mystifying phenomenon Aurora Borealis or the Northern Lights.

REVIEW
Youth Over Flowers is variety show about a group of friends traveling with the bare essentials. This time around, two groups composed of four friends are going to different countries on a very limited budget.

I'm glad I watched this season because I saw a different side of Iceland. Because of my background in business economics and international finance, I know of Iceland because of its financial crisis (and if you want to find out more about the global recession, watching the interesting documentary Inside Job is a good place to start).

Anyway, Aurora Borealis is very fascinating, and I would like to experience it in person. Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights and Aurora Australis or Southern Lights seems like a transcendent experience.

Youth Over Flowers has a different cast for each destination, and I'm considering one set of cast as one season. I'm just a stickler for organization, and I just need to make a clear distinction in my mind.

Season one is 꽃보다 청춘 Youth Over Flowers in Peru, where singers Yoon Sang, Lee Hee Yeol, and Lee Juck go to Peru. Season two is 꽃보다 청춘 Youth Over Flowers in Laos where actors Yeo Yeon Seok, Son Ho Joon, and Cha Sung Woo or Ba Ro go to Laos.

Season three is Youth Over Flowers in Iceland, where musical actors Jung Sang Hoon, Jo Jung Seok, Jung Woo, and Kang Ha Neul go to Iceland. Season four is 꽃보다 청춘 Youth Over Flowers in Africa, where actors Ahn Jae Hong, Go Kyung Pyo, Ryu Joon Yeol, and Park Bo Geum go to several countries in the continent.

This particular season was somewhat perplexing to me in some ways, and it's probably because I couldn't relate to the cast. Even though I understand their reasoning, I still find their actions too extreme.

Although I know how important it is to value money and to manage finances, I'm puzzled why they didn't buy an extra set of clothing or why they didn't make eating well a priority. If they have at least two sets of clothes, they can wear one set of clothes while they are washing and drying the other set of clothes. And since they're going to eat anyway, why not eat properly? Given that there are good food at various price points, I'm certain they can find healthy and sumptuous meals within their budget.

Perhaps it's because I'm not a musical actor who lives for the craft, but I don't get the many improvisation sessions, or the numerous singing out of the blue. I suppose I could look at it as their way of training on a daily basis, it makes sense that they'd want to hone their skills. But if I don't know them and I ran into them on the street and they randomly burst out in a song and dance number, I would probably wonder if there's something wrong with them.
