SYNOPSIS
Sakita Momo lost her father when she was two years old, and her mother died due to an illness when she was five years old. Momo is then left in the care of her 71-year-old grandfather Sakita Mokichi.
Momo decided to call her grandfather Paji, a combination of Papa (father) and Ojī-chan (grandmother), because he has taken the place of her parents.
REVIEW
Paji is a heartwarming family drama about a grandfather who had to become the primary guardian of his orphaned granddaughter.
The characters are somewhat too good to be true because Sakita Momo is a good child who is always cheerful and optimistic, and her grandfather Sakita Mokichi didn't think twice about caring for a toddler at his advanced age. Mokichi also has close friends Date Ginji and Aoki Haru who are willing to go the extra mile to help him take care of Momo.
I mean, normal children have tantrums, and children who had difficult childhoods may also have a lot of issues. And even though grandfathers love their grandchildren, it's different if you have to take care of them on a daily basis.
However, the drama showed the difficulties that a senior citizen may encounter when trying to raise a small child, from physical limitations to financial difficulties.
Paji may want to play as much as he can with Momo but he gets tired easily and he couldn't do any extreme activities. Although he still wants to work and he needs to do exactly that so he can provide for Momo, there isn't a lot of job opportunities for individuals who are already past retirement age and employers are reluctant to hire applicants who would require flexible working hours.
