SYNOPSIS
Hwang Ji An is a successful 30-something-year-old shoe designer who holds the vice-president position in a successful shoe company. She has alienated herself from the world because of her workaholic tendencies and her parents are disappointed that she is not yet married at her age.
Park Tae Kang is an irresponsible and immature 20-something-year-old bum who relies on his single father to survive. In order to help out his father, he ends up working at an entry-level position in Ji An's shoe company.
Ji An and Tae Kang have a one-night stand and they both decide to forget that anything happened between them. However, Ji An later finds out that she is pregnant and Tae Kang is the father.
REVIEW
I Do, I Do has an interesting premise but its execution leaves something to be desired. Hwang Ji An did find out that she was pregnant in the early episodes but Park Tae Kang did not find out that he was the father of Ji An's baby until the later episodes. It's disappointing, I suppose, because although young and initially immature, Tae Kang has shown himself as somewhat reliable at least terms of family and fatherhood.
It's really interesting how the drama discussed abortion as an option when a woman has an unplanned pregnancy because in these times, it really is an option. I think it's nice that abortion is presented in a matter-of-fact way and that the drama left the related moral issues to the viewers.
I wish the drama also discussed how working mothers with young children have to struggle with both raising children and work responsibilities. Not all mothers have the opportunity to quit work to focus on being a mother so it would have been nice if the drama presented those conflicts as well.
Although I think it is practical that Ji An and Tae Kang are not yet married when the drama ended considering that Tae Kang is still too young, I can't help but feel that they should have made a promise of commitment at the very least. I wouldn't have expectations of future married bliss if the two do not have romantic feelings for each other and are not together but the point of the matter is, they do and they are.
I don't know if I'm being traditional but in my way of thinking, you don't enter into relationships without considering that whoever you're with is someone you would want to spend the rest of your life with. Perhaps I'm being too set in my ways but I think relationships are always serious because really, what's the point of being in a not-so-serious relationship?
