SYNOPSIS
Kashiwagi Shuji and Uemura Natsumi are two new teachers at the same high school. They are in a romantic relationship who are set to get married in half a year.
However, the night before the school year's opening ceremony, Shuji becomes involved with the young Saeki Hikari, without realizing that she will be a student in his class starting the next day.
As Shuji struggles to help Hikari deal with the mental complex she is suffering from, he is also torn inside by his betrayal of Natsumi.
Meanwhile, Hikari attempts to get closer to Natsumi, driven by feelings of jealousy and a desire to destroy the couple's relationship
REVIEW
Taisetsu na Koto wa Subete Kimi ga Oshiete Kureta is interesting to watch because it portrays a more realistic love relationship wherein the characters are happy together but are also experiencing problems, in terms of trusting each other. Kashiwagi Shuji and Uemura Natsumi are very much in love with each other but other people's problems and issues kept affecting them and intruding in their happiness.
I don't think I understand Shuji as a character because he is too good to others and he tries to be there for others at his own expense and at the expense of the people that he loves. Although I know it's important to be nice to others and maybe even try to help others help themselves, I really think there should be a boundary somewhere. Besides, if one is not in a good place himself, how can he then help other people be in a good place?!
Although I understand that Saeki Hikari has her problems, I still don't think it justifies her trying to ruin a good relationship between Shuji and Natsumi, and also ruining Shuji's teaching career. When there were rumors about Shuji and Hikari spending the night together, Shuji didn't say anything in his defense because he couldn't remember anything and I suppose, out of respect to Hikari as well.
I think it's interesting that a minor character in the drama was able to somehow explain what it means to love someone. If ever you are having some difficulties trying to determine if a person is particularly important in your own life, you may want to consider taking his words to heart.
Tsuruoka Satoshi: When you see something beautiful, you want to see it with somebody; see it together and say things like 'Isn't it beautiful?' and 'How amazing.' Just those few words are enough. It's a happier thing to have someone to appreciate it with than seeing the beautiful thing itself. The person you want to see something beautiful with is your most important person.
I really like the conversational voice-over between Shuji and Natsumi at the end of the drama. Their view of love is more dramatic considering that they have gone through so much complications as a couple but I think their view of love is still accurate.
Kashiwagi Natsumi: Love sounded so sweet and a bit awkward to me before. But actually love is very bitter. No matter how many times you confirm it, love won't be totally sweet. Never.
Kashiwagi Shuji: Life would be a lot easier if people stopped worrying about that.
Kashiwagi Natsumi: A life of love is full of pain. But that's why a moment like this makes you happy.
Kashiwagi Shuji: I hurt for you.
Kashiwagi Natsumi: I cry for you.
Kashiwagi Shuji: That's happiness. The one who taught me that was you.
Kashiwagi Natsumi: ... you.
