SYNOPSIS
A detective who thinks he is God's greatest gift to women is widely known in his circle as Unubore or conceited. He used to have a girlfriend who he intends to marry, but she ended up leaving him.
Unubore entered an underground bar one night and meets other guys who are as conceited as he is, if not more. Kurihashi Makoto is a professor and author of books about women. Matsuoka Seishiro is a pastry chef who holds baking classes regularly for young women. Anai Kichi is a photographer of gravure idols. Honjo Sadame is an upcoming actor who is too handsome for his own good. These guys form the Unubore 5 group and regularly meet up to discuss their relationship troubles and women issues.
Unubore easily falls for women at first sight. However, the women he falls in love with are the criminals in the cases he is currently investigating. Upon gathering enough proof of the criminal's guilt, he presents the criminal with the choice of either getting arrested or marrying him.Unfortunately for Unubore, the women would rather go to jail than marry him.
REVIEW
In the first few cases, Unubore was not suspicious of the women he is attracted to and refuses to believe that these women are considered criminals in the cases he is investigating. If anything, he actively conducts the investigation in order to prove the innocence of his one true love. Later on though, he makes the connection between his attraction to a woman and the case he is currently handling. I like that at least in this aspect, it is evident that Unubore is not as stupid as he initially seems to be.
I found the first couple episodes of Unubore Deka more interesting because I had to guess who were the criminals and their reasons for committing crimes. After realizing the pattern of Unubore falling in love with the suspects, I found the latter episodes less interesting. The drama is still engaging though because I can still try to figure out why the suspects commit crimes.
It's funny how Unubore was so conceited about his own appeal to women and it's even more funny how he met four other people who are as conceited as he is about their own appeal, if not more. Their conversations are so entertaining but it's great that they found a bar where they could have their conversations because it would create a lot of trouble if other people, particularly women, happen to overhear their discussions.
Honestly, I think I tolerate them because they are characters in a drama. But if I actually get to meet them in real life, I don't think I'll like them. But then again, I don't think there are people who are actually as conceited as Unobore 5. At least, I hope there isn't.
