SYNOPSIS
Hong Nan Hee is in her early thirties, is financially unstable, and is in a career slump. She works in a small publishing firm as an editor but she still wants to pursue her dream of becoming a writer. Although she is in a relationship with a younger man, she keeps it a secret from her mother who wishes to see her married as soon as possible.
Byun Hyung Tae is Nan Hee's best friend and they have known each other since they were babies. He is good looking, has a successful advertising career, and is financially stable. He is a playboy though and in Nan Hee's eyes, he is the same old boy she knew back in the days.
Nan Hee and Hyung Tae are very close but they've never attempted to become lovers. They both agree that staying friends is better than attempting a love relationship with each other because they are afraid to lose each other if ever things do not work out.
REVIEW
9 Ends, 2 Outs is mainly about the life, love, and relationships of a group of friends in their 30s. I understand why people are hesitant about changing their relationships from friendship to a love affair. And, of course, the problem becomes more complicated if the two individuals move in the same circle, such as if the families are friends and neighbors.
One of the greatest mysteries in life is whether a boy and a girl can actually remain just friends. I'd like to think that it is possible but then again, the two lead characters in the drama used to be just best friends but have become lovers. So I don't really know.
I'm not sure what made me initially assume that people in their 20s have remarkably different concerns from people in their 30s. In both age groups, people seem to want fairly similar things: a successful career, financial stability, a good love relationship, etc. I suppose for women in their 30s, getting married and having children would be their primary concern due to the ticking body clock.
Hong Nan Hee's dream is to be a writer and she's still aspiring to be one even though she is already in her early thirties. She is determined to achieve her dream but her mom wants her to be realistic and to focus on more practical matters such as getting a stable job and maybe even getting married.
This matter prompted me to think whether there should really be deadlines when it comes to realizing one's dreams. I've always thought it is important to keep working hard until one's dreams become a reality. But then again, things don't always go the way we want it to be. So perhaps, having a deadline and maybe even an alternative course of action is justifiable for most people.
