SYNOPSIS
The drama is about five different individuals who became a close-knit group of friends in high school...
Jiang Chen is a tall, handsome guy who is consistently at the top of his class. He's quiet and reserved, and he doesn't seem to interact with his peers a lot.
Chen Xiao Xi has a crush on Jiang Chen. They are in the same class, and they have been neighbors ever since they were young. Xiao Xi has been very vocal about her feelings for Jiang Chen, and although he doesn't seem to feel the same way about her, he seems to be comfortable with her.
Wu Bu Song recently transferred to their school, and he became good friends with Xiao Xi right away. Bu Song is always training in swimming, but he hangs out with Xiao Xi and her friends whenever he attends classes and school events.
Lin Jing Xiao is also one of the top students of their class. She has a tomboyish personality, and she always gets into fights because of her righteous personality. Jing Xiao and Xiao Xi became close friends because of their mutual admiration of one celebrity.
Lu Yang is a nerdy guy who loves playing games. He develops romantic feelings for Jing Xiao, when she is always defending him from bullies.
REVIEW
A Love So Beautiful is an interesting drama about youth, close friendship that withstood the test of time, and young love that was for forever. It is a feel good drama about growing up, and becoming an adult.
I think this is one of the few dramas where you'll like most of the lead characters. They all have great personalities, and they are very easy to relate to.
Jiang Chen is very quiet, and he doesn't speak if he has nothing to say. He can be quite happy on his own, and he can be quite happy being with other people. He knows what he thinks and how he feels, but he doesn't feel the need to broadcast it to the world because he doesn't think it is necessary for any validation whatsoever. Jiang Chen is my favorite character, mainly because I identify with him the most.
Chen Xiao Xi is amazing for being brave at wearing her heart on her sleeves, but what I really like about her is how she made a close knit group out of very different individuals who probably wouldn't be friends with each other if not for her. I didn't like how she seemed stupid most of the time, but she became top of her class when she worked hard. I mean, why can't she prioritize her studies, while also engaging in her hobby of painting and pursuing her passion, which is Jiang Chen?
Wu Bo Song is a good person, and I like how he's a dedicated athlete. Although it seemed that swimming was his family's dream for him, her was very considerate to make their dream a reality. I didn't really get him as a person because his world seemed to revolve on Xiao Xi, and he was very forward with letting his feelings known to to everyone even though he knew quite well that she's in love with someone else.
Lin Jing Xiao is a great role model because she is someone who is very principled, and who works hard at her studies. She proves that it is possible to be pretty and smart and good all at the same time; it shouldn't ever be an either/or scenario. I didn't like how people viewed her as a boy (or maybe tomboyish?) simply because she's strong and sporty.
Lu Yang is a funny guy who seems to have no filter whatsoever. He says whatever he thinks out loud, without any regard to being polite or politically correct. But he doesn't seem to be a mean person, more like careless, really.
Anyway, A Love So Beautiful is a good drama to watch, although it's not particularly memorable. However, it became just an okay drama when I found out that it was based on a Chinese novel with the same title, but the drama was completely different from its source material, from the characters to the plot.
In the first place, why make an adaptation if you won't adapt the source material? Why not just call it a different drama altogether, because in the end, that's what it is essentially.
