SYNOPSIS
miwa - ヒカリへ [To Hikari]
Natsui Makoto now works in Brazil and she goes to New York City for a work presentation. Hyuga Toru goes to New York City for a business meeting and meets up with Makoto for a while and they go around the city for a short date.

Makoto goes back to Tokyo, Japan for a vacation and visits her old workplace. Her former colleagues find out she doesn't have a place to stay and they tell her she could just stay at her boyfriend's apartment. Toru is visibly hesitant to ask Makoto to live with him for a few days but he eventually makes a reluctant offer.

REVIEW
Rich Man, Poor Woman is basically about Hyuga Toru and Natsui Makoto's relationship. While they were in a long distance relationship, things went well because they live apart. When Makoto goes back to Tokyo for a week and lives with Toru at his apartment, their differences are making it difficult for them to deal with each other.

I can sort of sympathize with Toru finding it difficult to live with someone because I'm sort of the same. I suppose there are just those people, like us, who need their own space and who need things to be a certain way in order to feel comfortable.

Makoto was so in tune with Toru's moods and feelings that she can tell when he's having problems at work. On the other hand, Toru was oblivious that Makoto was having a hard time. When they discussed their issues, Makoto said Toru should have sensed things without her having to tell him if there's anything wrong.

Natsui Makoto: You should have guessed!
Hyuga Toru: Me? Why should I have guessed it?
Natsui Makoto: Because... when we are together, you should just sense things. Like 'Is something wrong?' or 'You are not like your usual self, what happened?'
Hyuga Toru: I did not sense it.
Natsui Makoto: (Exactly) as I thought.

I was really intrigued by this statement because I don't know if it is true. I suppose to an extent, people can read other people's feelings, even more so if these people are in a close relationship.

However, I also think that people are not mind readers. It's better to say out loud what you feel so that there's no confusion or second-guessing. I don't know, I just think it will take a lot of unnecessary effort for one person to guess what was wrong. I mean, if that someone was told what was wrong and the issue is out in the open, people can then focus their efforts on resolving the issue.

But the real reason why Toru and Makoto's relationship broke down is mainly because they are at different places in the relationship. Toru is reluctant to commit and make adjustments in his life for Makoto whereas Makoto is more than willing to take their relationship to the next level.

It's one of those things where neither party is right or wrong, it just so happens that they both need to think things through and decide whether they are willing to do whatever it takes to make their relationship work.
