SYNOPSIS
Mysterious detective L still suspects that Yagami Light is Kira but he lets him join the investigation team working on the Kira case. Light joined the team to see L's face and to uncover L's real name so he can kill him.
A stalker is following idol Amane Misa, intending to kill her, but he suddenly dies. Misa notices a Death Note drop on the street and when she touches it, she sees a Shinigami or God of Death named Rem.
A mysterious person who calls himself the 'Second Kira' kills the critics of the original Kira and he declares that he will kill everyone who does not support Kira.
How to Use the Death Note:
The human whose name is written in the Death Note shall die.
The Death Note will not take effect unless the writer has the person’s face in his mind when writing his name. Therefore, people sharing the same name will not be affected.
If the cause of death is written within 40 seconds of writing the person’s name, it will happen. But, if the cause of death is not specified, the person will simply die of a heart attack.
After writing the cause of death, details of the death should be written in the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds.
The human who touches the Death Note can recognize the image and voice of its original owner, a god of death, even if the human is not the owner of the note.
The individuals who lose the ownership of the Death Note will also lose their memory of the usage of the Death Note. This does not mean that he will lose all the memory from the day he owned it to the day he loses possession, but means he will only lose the memory involving the Death Note.
The Death Note can only operate within 23 days (in the human calendar). This is called the 23-day rule.
Once the victim's name has been written, the individual's death can never be avoided.
The human who uses the Death Note can neither go to heaven nor hell.
REVIEW
The showdown between L and Yagami Light is amazing in the sequel Death Note: The Last Name. Although L is suspecting Light to be Kira, he cannot find any proof to implicate him.
Light has managed to evade L's suspicions even though there are some instances wherein he almost gave himself away because of his pride on being Kira. For instance, when the investigation team are discussing whether the second Kira is actually the first Kira in disguise, Light went on a lengthy explanation on the merits of the first Kira and on the faults of the second Kira.
I don't understand how Light can claim that "(The first) Kira did not kill innocent people" because he did kill a lot of innocent people. Kira killed the FBI officer assigned to trail him and his entire team. He also killed his girlfriend Kashino Shiori so that people will pity him and will assume that he is not Kira.
I really like Light's father Yagami Soichiro's speech about the law and its limitations. The laws may have loopholes and there may be laws in place that are intended to be for the benefit of a limited few but generally, the laws are written for the benefit of everyone.
Yagami Soichiro: Yes, it's impossible... Laws aren't perfect because humans who created the laws aren't perfect. I'ts impossible to be perfect. However, the laws are evidence of humanity's struggle to be righteous.
