REVIEW
The Blossoming of Maximo Oliveros is about a child opening his eyes on the misdeeds of his beloved family, and becoming more aware of the realities of life. It is about a young person's first love, and his troubled ordeal of having to choose between his family and the man he loves.

Flamboyantly gay Maximo Oliveros, also known as Maxi, didn't think twice about his family's engagement in petty crimes until he meets Victor Perez, the new policeman in town. Victor taught Maxi about right and wrong, and he also encouraged the out-of-school youth to study so that he will have many options in life.

Their involvement in criminal activities notwithstanding, I like how Maxi's father Paco Oliveros and his very masculine older brothers Boy Oliveros and Bogs Oliveros are very accepting of Maxi and his effeminate ways. They don't find him strange, they don't force him to be like them, and they don't make a big thing out of what makes Maxi different; for them, Maxi is just plain Maxi.

I especially like the scene where Bogs comforted Maxi when he was heartbroken. Bogs stayed with Maxi and let him cry on his shoulders. Bogs even volunteered to keep Maxi's secret from their father and eldest sibling.
