REVIEW
The grandfathers Lee Soon Jae, Shin Goo,  Park Geun Hyung, and Baek Il Sub, and Lee Seo Jin are back! Grandpas Over Flowers caught my attention because it is about traveling, and I love traveling!

I thought there wouldn't be any more sequels to 꽃보다 할배 Grandpas Over Flowers, so it was a pleasant surprise that there's another season. I'm honestly confused as to how to categorize the show as I'm not certain how the production staff does it, but I'll consider one trip as one season, and so this trip to Spain is the third season. I usually post about a production after the whole thing has finished airing but I'll probably make an exception for Grandpas Over Flowers. We'll see...

The production staff ups the ante this time around by making the grandpas and Seo Jin go on a backpacking trip, and by significantly reducing their budget. They also made the grandfathers go ahead to Spain on their own, with Seo Jin following soon after (but this is not particularly new as the grandpas minus eldest grandpa Soon Jae went ahead to Taiwan in the second season).

I was quite apprehensive about making things more difficult for the grandpas because traveling is already stressful enough with unanticipated events, and sometimes unwelcome developments. While it is admittedly entertaining to see the grandpas and particularly Seo Jin have a hard time, I feel somewhat uneasy with having fun at their expense because their troubles seem to be particularly brought about on purpose, as opposed to simply being an unavoidable outcome of the circumstances.

Which is why it was particularly satisfying to find out in the later episodes that Seo Jin worked around the tight budget by adding around US$1,000 from his personal account to the group's travel funds, so that they don't have to worry about spending money. In addition, since Seo Jin is quite aware that the producers will be suspicious if he is not concerned about money during the trip, he complained a lot and pretended to be quite unhappy with the set budget.

Anyway, I like that the grandpas impart life lessons in such a matter-of-fact way. I think the best way for people to absorb words of wisdom from elders is when the elders are just simply sharing their insights, and not when the elders are giving a stern lecture.

I wonder if there's going to be a next season, and where they are going if ever. I think it would be interesting if the grandpas and Seo Jin go to India, and maybe explore Bollywood.

If the producers want the cast to encounter a lot of challenges while traveling, they could probably go to the Philippines. It's a beautiful country but given that it's an archipelago, the cast would have to board airplanes to get from one place to another, and that's if they're lucky because to get to most tourist destinations like Boracay or the Underground River in Palawan, the itinerary will involve air travel, water transportation, and a land trip.
