SYNOPSIS
It has been several years since Takahashi Nanami said goodbye to Yano Motoharu, who had decided to go with his mother who is moving to Tokyo for work.
Nanami and Motoharu continued with their relationship despite the long distance. They kept in touch through mails and phone calls for around six months after Yano left, and then he suddenly ceased all communication with her.
She is currently busy looking for work, and she's still waiting for Yano...
REVIEW
Bokura ga Ita is about second chances; specifically how a first love can be true love but in some cases, you won't really know for certain until some time has passed. I suppose we won't really know anything for sure, so it's important to live our lives to the fullest so we won't have any regrets.
Yano Motoharu and Takahashi Nanami liked each other when they were in high school but they had to part ways soon after they got together. They tried to make a long-distance relationship work, but they lost all communication after only six months.
Bokura ga Ita actually has a running time of around four hours. Bokura ga Ita Zenpen, which is around two hours, is just the part one and covers the high school years of Motoharu and Nanami. 僕等がいた 後篇 Bokura ga Ita Kōhen continues their story for around two more hours.
The movie is fine as it, albeit a little slow. I think with some clever editing and maybe cutting of redundant scenes, then it might be possible to have it shortened to just maybe two hours.
