SYNOPSIS
Def Tech - My Way
Sakurai Harue is struggling to raise her three sons Sakurai Tatsuya, Sakurai Riku, and Sakurai Junpei. Harue is absolutely hopeless in running a household so her eldest son Tatsuya does the job for her.

Tatsuya is a very serious person and he works in an advertising agency. He acts as the head of the family; taking care of his mother, and his younger brothers.

Tamura Chisato has always admired Tatsuya from afar but Tatsuya initially does not notice her. Tatsuya and Chisato begin to date each other with a little help from Tatsuya's meddling mother.

Riku, the middle child, has an easygoing personality. He's had a string of jobs but he never took his work seriously. Eventually, he decides to follow in his father's footsteps and he reopens the family's laundry and drycleaning shop.

The youngest Junpei is still in high school and rather naive. He meets and falls in love with Aizawa Miyuki, a girl pregnant with child and abandoned by her ex-boyfriend. Junpei promises Miyuki that he will take care of her and the baby.

REVIEW
Def Tech - Broken Hearts
Brother Beat is a really heartwarming family drama. The Sakurai family has a very extraordinary relationship given that they bicker a lot and the brothers even fight regularly. However, their concern and affection for each other is very obvious considering that they always support each other and help each other.

More than the interesting family dynamics, I watched the drama because I became invested in the developing love story between Sakurai Tatsuya and Tamura Chisato.

One aspect of the drama wherein I really had to suspend my disbelief is when the other characters keep saying that Chisato is such a plain ordinary girl that Tatsuya, who supposedly only notices beautiful girls, would never pay her any attention. It is a very good concept story-wise; how Tatsuya sees through appearances and is touched by Chisato's feelings for him.

However, the premise really bothered me because Chisato looks beautiful even though she's wearing old-fashioned clothes and glasses. The actress playing Chisato is so pretty that her beauty shines through. If they have casted a more plain-looking actress, then perhaps this particular premise would be more believable.

Anyway, it's really nice how the two got together in the end even though in order to make things clear with her, Tatsuya told Chisato that he is not thinking about her at all. He also told his brother Sakurai Riku that he never saw Chisato as a woman.

Actually, it was Chisato who first confessed her feelings and it really seemed out of character for her given that she's supposed to be terribly shy and has no confidence in herself. However, when she confessed, it seemed like she believed it was the last time that she would ever see Tatsuya so perhaps she felt compelled to confess her feelings.

Honestly, I have a lot of respect for Chisato for confessing her feelings. It's not something I can do no matter how much I like a person so I think it was really brave of her to do so.

Although it seems that Chisato is very meek and submissive, she surprisingly has a very strong character. She voices out her thoughts and feelings, especially if she feels that Tatsuya has been wrong.

Chisato has a completely different disposition from Tatsuya's ex-girlfriend. However, Tatsuya has been attracted to girls with very different dispositions and personalities throughout the drama so when I think about it, this is not the case of 'a person ending up with someone who is the complete opposite of his ideal type'. This is a good thing for me because I don't really like this particular concept.

Even when the two were already dating, there were a lot of times when Tatsuya forgets Chisato and their dates that you would think he doesn't really care about her. However, Tatsuya comes around and even shows the world how much Chisato means to her. So looking back, perhaps he is the type of person who is not very showy and vocal about his feelings.

The two gets married after resolving a lot of issues. However, I really wondered about Chisato's desire to be a housewife. She works as an assistant manager in a supermarket but she's willing to quit her job to manage the Sakurai household. I would have liked her character better if she insisted on working even after getting married. She seems like a very capable person so I'm sure she'll be able to do her job well and be a good daughter-in-law at the same time, if she wishes to do both.
