SYNOPSIS
An inconspicuous body guard Namiki Kohei is assigned to Korean superstar Han Yu Na. Kohei is less than ordinary, a single man almost 40 in age working part-time at a security company. Despite his kind and attractive looks, he is surrounded by people who boss him around with unreasonable demands. He keeps a dream to himself, a desire to someday become an astronomer and find his very own star. He justifies not being able to fulfill this dream to lack of funds and issues with his family.
Han Yu Na, while having a perfect face and body, loves to eat junk food. She also has a kind heart for helping others in need. While every aspect of her life may seem like a girl's dream come true, she feels a certain solitude being in the entertainment industry.
As Kohei and Yu Na become closer and closer to each other, they become an inseparable couple who discovers true love. Where will the couple end up after the contracted 99 days?
REVIEW
I think there's always this fascination of two people from two different worlds falling in love and that's why there are a lot productions about the rich and the poor, the celebrities and the commoners, etc.
I think being a bodyguard is hard work. Namiki Kohei said, "A bodyguard is closest to the person he is protecting but he is also the farthest." Bodyguards need to be close in proximity but not emotionally; and relationships between bodyguards and the person they are protecting are generally not acceptable.
Actress Kim Tae Hee has a lot of charm but she's not really a very good actress. I think her mediocre acting is more pronounced in Boku to Star no 99 Nichi since she's acting in Japanese, which is not her native language. Her pronunciation is good enough although she makes some mistakes but there's no emotion behind the lines. Kim Tae Hee's specialty is crying and it's not necessarily because her acting is emotional but because she's still beautiful even when she cries her heart out.
The worst actor in the drama is Taecyeon and he actually makes Kim Tae Hee a relatively good actress. He doesn't really fare better when he's acting in Korean, which he is more fluent in.
