SYNOPSIS
伊藤由奈 Itō Yuna - Endless Story
Komatsu Nana has saved up a lot of money in order to follow her boyfriend to Tokyo. Her boyfriend Endo Shoji is an art student who works part-time in a restaurant. Shoji thought Nana was just visiting for a while but she's intending to stay in Tokyo for good.

Ōsaki Nana is an ambitious punk who dreams of becoming a singer. She used to be in a rock and roll band with her boyfriend Honjō Ren but he left the band to pursue his own career.

The two met on a train on their way to Tokyo to follow their dreams. They met again while looking for apartments and they decided to live together.

REVIEW
Nana is a great movie about friendships. There are certain individuals we meet coincidentally who end up making a major influence in shaping the people that we become.

It's fascinating how two people who couldn't look anymore different from each other became the best of friends. It may seem strange how Komatsu Nana and Ōsaki Nana became closer because they have too many differences: character, disposition, interests, goals in life, etc.

But in a way, it was inevitable that the two will become friends because they have some similarities. One in particular is the fact that they happen to be on the same train bound for Tokyo, which provided a way for them to be in each other's orbit. Being in close quarters and having some time to kill, they end up talking and getting to know each other.

It helps that they have the same first name, although it is written differently in Japanese text. For 小松奈々 Komatsu Nana, her 奈々 Nana is written in kanji. For 大崎ナナ Ōsaki Nana, her ナナ Nana is written in katakana.

The movie is based on a manga and its title is written as ナナ Nana, which is exactly how Ōsaki Nana's first name is written. It makes sense that it is more about her because although Komatsu Nana did the voice overs, the film covered more of Ōsaki Nana's life, with flashbacks to her past.

Anyway, Ōsaki Nana thinks Komatsu Nana is like a dog, telling her, "You are just like a dog... because you are so friendly and honest, but hard to take care of. Just like... you should be called Hachi." Komatsu Nana thinks Ōsaki Nana is like a cat, saying in voiceover. "You're like a willful stray cat, full of pride and freedom." I prefer dogs over cats, and I don't really like cats, so perhaps that's the reason I can sort of identify more with Komatsu Nana.

More than that, I like Komatsu Nana's wardrobe. Although I like some of Ōsaki Nana's clothes, such as her plaid skirts, I don't like her styling as whole. I prefer Komatsu Nana's classic and feminine style, and I covet most of her outfits in the film.
