SYNOPSIS
のだめカンタービレ Nodame Cantabile - のだめカンタービレ Nodame CantabileMegumi Noda, better known as Nodame, is a piano student at Momogaoka College of Music. She is an extremely talented pianist but she prefers playing by ear rather than reading the music score. Nodame is an eccentric person; she is messy and disorganized, she doesn't take baths daily, and she steals her friends' lunchboxes.
Shinichi Chiaki is the top student at Momogaoka College of Music. Born in a musically inclined family, Chiaki is talented in piano and violin. He is an arrogant multi-lingual perfectionist who once lived abroad in the music capitals of the world as a young boy.
When Nodame meets Chiaki, she quickly falls in love with him. Nodame provides an opportunity for Chiaki to lead a student orchestra where he develops a broader appreciation of people's musical abilities.
REVIEW
I like Nodame Cantabile because it's a way to educate people about classical music and a way to encourage people to appreciate orchestra. I don't know a lot about classical music but I really like the drama's soundtrack.
There are a lot of characters in the drama and most people would definitely find at least one character they can identify with and/or they aspire to be like. There are naturally gifted characters who need some passion in order to become better artists and there are hardworking characters who exert all effort to become experts in their chosen musical instruments.
I don't really understand Megumi Noda or Nodame as a character. She's interesting because she's eccentric but I don't think she's someone most people would want to be like or would aspire to be like.
It's really astounding how Shinichi Chiaki developed feelings for Nodame, considering that he witnessed all her faults and shortcomings. I suppose people would say that truly loving someone means being aware of that person's faults and accepting those faults, and some even go far as to say finding these faults endearing.
However, I have read that considering that people generally try to be polite in society and presentable to strangers, it is even more important that people exert more effort to be charming and beautiful to the people they love such as family and friends. And when I think about it, it makes a lot of sense.
