SYNOPSIS
Shinoda Kaori will be working as an air traffic controller at the Tokyo Airport, also known as Haneda Airport. She used to work as part of the airport ground staff, and her previous work experience in a different capacity may be helpful as she establishes herself in her new career.

Kaori visits her new workplace on the day prior her first scheduled work day to introduce herself to her colleagues. It was quite a learning experience for her to see the other air traffic controllers in action, and she's looking forward to work as one.

She will be working with her supervisor Yūki Noboru who was her instructor in college, her other supervisor Takeuchi Hiromi who will strictly oversee Kaori's training, Kondo Yukihiro who is quite brash, Yamashita Yuji who is very interested in railroads, and Sakai Mana who used to live abroad due to her father's work assignments.

REVIEW
Tokyo Airport is about the aviation industry as a whole but in particular, it is about air traffic controllers. I think dramas about work or professions are fascinating, and there aren't much productions about air traffic controllers so I was quite interested in watching the drama.

Air traffic controllers provide safety of air traffic by avoiding collisions, and keep air traffic in order by facilitating and maintaining the orderly flow of aircraft taking off and landing in the airport. They had to perform well during simulation training before they can work in the air traffic control tower.

Being an air traffic controller is a very demanding job, especially because they are not allowed to make mistakes as any error of judgment on their part can lead to numerous problems and even a catastrophe.

Yūki Noboru: Humans are bound to make mistakes. The important thing is how we go about creating a work environment where colleagues back each other up when mistakes are made.

The drama mainly deals with the difficulties in an air controller's job such as lack of visibility in inclement weather, collisions, emergencies, and terrorism threats.

I enjoyed watching the drama but it was a struggle to get through with it. I've never been afraid of flying but while watching the drama, I became a little apprehensive about going to airports and getting on airplanes. I suppose I'd recommend a cautious flyer to think twice before watching Tokyo Airport although it's a good drama.

I had a difficult time understanding the English dialogues in the drama although I think the actors did a good job. I think my comprehension issues has more to do with the fact that I'm not very familiar with the accent.
