REVIEW
Pitch Perfect (Soundtrack) - Party in the USA
Pitch Perfect (Soundtrack) - Trebles Finals
Pitch Perfect is an entertaining movie about music and acapella groups. I love the musical arrangements, particularly the way several songs are mashed up or put together.

I was initially interested in Pitch Perfect because I think Anna Kendrick is a charming and talented actress so I always make it a point to check out her projects. I found myself completely on board with the movie when I found out that the director is Jason Moore who created the 'Avenue Q' musical, which I love and is actually one of my favorite musicals of all time.

The characters are particularly fascinating because they are so extreme that they are seemingly caricatures of real people. I suppose for a two-hour long production, there really isn't much time to present complex and realistic characters.

I think it was disconcerting that each character has a label instead of a name in the promotions, such as 'Rebel with a Voice' Beca, 'Sexy Soprano' Stacie, 'The Quiet One' Lilly, and 'Butch Bass' Cynthia Rose. I suppose the labels makes it easy to grab people's attention but I'm not really comfortable with people being pigeonholed into specific roles.

However, I do think it's great that these very different people ended up being in the same club or organization because of their love for music, and they ended up developing close friendships with each other. People sometimes get so hung up on how they are different from each other, that they forget they may have some things in common that they can use to build meaningful relationships on.

Anyway, I'm actually quite disappointed with Beca because she is indifferent with pursuing a college education, although I do understand that she wants to go out to the real world and start producing music. Her father is a college professor who wants to financially support her so she can get a good education, which makes her really fortunate. And I don't know about her but I, for one, am more than interested to attend the Philosophy 101 class.

I think college is a great opportunity to explore possible interests, build future careers, and meet various people who may end up as lifelong friends. I suppose college is not really for everyone but if you're given an opportunity to pursue a college degree, I think it's only appropriate to just try and make the best out of it. Which Beca eventually did, I suppose, because at the end of the movie, Beca's still in Barden University and she's still in the Barden Bellas.
