SYNOPSIS
Park Su Ha's father is murdered while he is with him and the killer would have also killed Su Ha if not for a couple of witnesses who shouted and alarmed the killer enough to run away.

When the killer was later found and brought to trial, there was not much evidence to put him to jail except for Su Ha's testimony. One of the witnesses, Jang Hye Sung, later testified against the killer and her testimony became the deciding factor for finding the killer guilty and sentencing him to go to jail.

The killer stated that after he is released from jail, he will find Hye Sung and kill her. Hye Sung is visibly shaken but Su Ha approaches her and vows that he will protect her...

REVIEW
I Hear Your Voice turned out to be quite interesting and I really appreciate it for making me think of a lot of things. It helped me try to establish my opinions and reasoning about certain matters.

I find the work of lawyers and prosecutors fascinating because they don't really have to believe their client is guilty or not guilty in order to do their jobs. In a nutshell, their job is to prosecute or defend a person/company and seek for the maximum or minimum sentence for a person/company, depending on which side they are working for.

Jang Hye Sung: Do you know who needs to be kicked out of the courtroom? A lawyer who always loses? A judge who always rules wrongly? Or a prosecutor who always makes mistakes in her indictments? None of the above. The person who makes a mistake and knows she’s wrong, but stands by it -- like you -- is the biggest problem.

Jung Pil Jae: I’ve studied the law and what I’ve found is, it isn’t how you observe the law, but how you use it.

Oh Choon Shim: An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth... if we lived by that law, then all the people in the world would be blind.

Judge Seo Dae Suk: We have to make evidence... To catch the killer, this is what we have to do... We have to be willing to do anything to catch a killer.

Seo Do Yeon: That’s the thing about liars; once you find out there’s been one lie, you start to question whether anything else they said was true.

Jang Hye Sung: I don't care what your beliefs are or what the law is or isn’t... What I need is somebody with the skill to get an acquittal for a guilty man.

Jang Hye Sung: No, you are the one who started this. Don't act like a victim. You're just a murderer. The moment you killed Su Ha's father and my mother, all of your excuses, all of your reasons -- they all disappeared. That's the beginning.

It's intriguing how the laws put in place to protect the innocent can be utilized to make a guilty person run free. It's interesting how a law can be interpreted in so many different ways that it can be utilized by opposing sides for their arguments.

I wasn't really interested in I Hear Your Voice right off the bat because I don't really think superpower concepts are utilized well in dramas, and I'm not personally fond of the older-woman-younger-man romance concept.

I think I'm one of the few who are disappointed that the production went with the older-woman-younger-man romance concept. Some people may think I'm being an ageist but I think their romance is wrong mainly because the age difference is too far apart and they are at different stages in their lives.

Park Su Ha may be mature for his age but his age is what matters when it comes to finding work opportunities, and being capable of supporting a household and a family. Jang Hye Sung may be somewhat immature for her age but her age is what matters when it comes to being in relationships and creating a family.

If and when they do get together, will Hye Sung provide the financial support until Su Ha can graduate from college and find a stable job? If they get married, will they have children right away because Hye Sung is not getting any younger or will they put off having children until Su Ha becomes a legal adult? I may be overthinking things but there you go.

I think developing a romance between Su Ha and Hye Sung is the path the production took because it was easier to execute. I love romance but you have to admit that there's a fleeting quality to romance and not all love stories are meant to last a lifetime.

Although it may be harder to execute, I would have appreciated more if the production went with creating a pseudo-family with Su Ha and Hye Sung, not as each other's partners but more like each other's sibling. They both have no families left in the world and it would be great if they found a family in each other, without the romantic aspect.
