This is a story of boy meets girl. The boy, Tom Hansen, grew up believing that he’d never truly be happy until the day he met the one. The girl, Summer Finn, did not share this belief. You should know up front this is not a love story.

REVIEW
500 Days of Summer is a great movie. It makes people think about life, particularly about love and relationships. What's great about the movie is that you can arrive in possibly different insights or  conclusions, depending on how you interpret the scenarios.

It's funny how Tom Hansen interprets his interactions with Summer Finn, putting meaning into things that are quite ordinary and could not have any hidden meanings. His actions are very typical of a person who wants to love someone and to be loved by that someone in return.

It's ironic how the things he likes about Summer when he was infatuated with her are also the exact same things that irritate him when he is frustrated with her. I'm not sure but it's quite interesting how Summer did not change but Tom's perception of her changed.

I really like the scenes where Tom's expectations where aligned with reality. There's basically two frames in the shot that show Tom's expectations in the left frame and the reality or what actually happens in the right frame.

The concept of 'the one' is explored in the movie. Is it really possible that there is only one person that we could describe as 'the one' we are meant to be with? Is it also possible that you think one person is 'the one' for you but then that person thinks that you are not 'the one' for her?

If we take the concept that there's a right person for each one of us, then it would seem that all we need to do is meet that person and then things will work out the way it's meant to be. But then if we can be mistaken in determining 'the one', that just makes the process of meeting that person that we are meant to be with even more difficult and even question if there is really a person we are meant to be with, which really just gets us back full circle to the starting point where we question if 'the one' is real.

That's what I didn't like from the movie -- how it seemed that in order for Tom to find 'the one' or the right person for him, he had to go through a relationship with someone who is not 'the one'. Is it really necessary and for what purpose?

500 Days of Summer is a well-written production and I really like a lot of the dialogues.

Rachel Hansen: Just because she likes the same bizarre-o crap you do doesn't mean she's your soul mate.

Rachel Hansen: You're just afraid you'll get an answer you don't want which will shatter your illusions of how good everything's been these past few months.

Rachel Hansen: Look, I know you think she was the one, but I don't. Now, I think you're just remembering the good stuff. Next time you look back, I, uh, I really think you should look again.

Summer Finn: I just woke up one day and I knew... what I was never sure of with you.

Summer Finn: It just wasn't me that you were right about.
